The Search for a New Facial Moisturizer

I have been on the hunt for a new facial moisturizer and, after a few strikeouts, believe I have found a truly special product. I was using the Cerave daily moisturizer, which I bought in bulk many, many months ago. And it did a really nice job- it kept my skin moisturized with no breakouts. But after nearly a year of using the same moisturizer, I wanted to see what else was on the market.

I still use the Cerave AM moisturizer every morning, so I was searching for a heavier formula for the evening. I considered going back to a popular drugstore brand for the sake of saving money, but knew that would be a mistake considering my skin still felt tight and parched afterwards. I opted for a different $8 drugstore brand and this was also a mistake. My skin felt like it was burning when I applied it and I broke out with several pimples, which never happens to me. Although it took my skin on a journey, it was exciting to be exploring new products again.

Finally, I did some more research and decided to go for Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, which has been saved on my Sephora favorites as a wish list item. I bit the bullet and spent the $34 for the moisturizer. The first time I applied it to my skin, I am not exaggerating, it felt like I had just drank an entire glass of water. I didn’t even know that was possible, but that’s how hydrated my skin felt. I’ve never had that feeling or reaction from a beauty product before and my skin had this healthy, glowing look after applying it. 

I am really enjoying using this product. I prefer to use it as an evening moisturizer because I used it in the morning by accident once and my skin looked dewy even after applying powder on top of my makeup. That’s not my preferred look, I prefer a more matte finish. If you do like that dewy look or plan to wear no makeup for the day, then definitely use this moisturizer in the A.M. so your skin can look it’s absolute best.

Final thoughts: I highly recommend the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. I am still hoping to find a more reasonably priced moisturizer, but to be honest with you, you don’t need that much product. A little goes a long way when applying it to your face, so it will definitely last a long time. And with better ingredients comes a higher price tag. It’s worth it.
