How to Transition to Fall Clothes in the Southeastern U.S. – October 2026

If you’ve been feeling a bit off lately, it might be time to transition out your wardrobe. The change of weather and the waning daylight has been gradual, yet a bit harsh. Take this time to assess what you need in this time. And while you do that, set aside an hour or two to audit your closet and drawers, put away your summer clothes and move in your fall clothes.

I was discussing this with my co-worker, and she asked what items those could be since it’s not quite cold enough for winter clothes but chilly enough for fall clothes in the mornings. Here’s what I put away and brought out.

What I Put Away

-Bright colored clothes like hot pink, bright yellow, lime green etc.

-White and aquatic blue tops

-Mini dresses

-Tanks, short sleeve and strapless tops

-Shorts

-Light fabric dresses and skirts

What I Took Out of Storage

-Long sleeve tops

-A few cardigans

-Dark colored dresses and tops like burgundy, brown, navy, etc.

-Midi and maxi skirts

-midi and maxi dresses

-Boots
