It’s finally continuously warm in Savannah so it’s time to put away my fall/winter wardrobe and switch to my spring/summer clothes. One of the perks of living in a small space is that for what you lack in space you gain in creativity. I have a bed with storage, so I put whatever I can’t fit in my closet in my drawers. This includes off-season clothes. I feel like I just switched to my winter wardrobe not too long ago, but I’m looking forward to wearing lighter colors and fabrics.
When switching to a new season’s wardrobe, it’s a great opportunity to edit your closet. Keep reading below for some more tips on how to prepare your spring/summer wardrobe.
1. Get rid of old items you’ll no longer wear
A seasonal closet switch out is the perfect time to donate, sell or throw out items you don’t want anymore. This includes the fall/winter clothes as well as the spring/summer items.
2. Assess what needs repairs
I bought a few thrifted items this past winter that I knew would be great for spring, but they ended up being a little large. The material was too good to return for the price I got it for, so I plan on taking in some of the items, adding belt loops, etc.
3. Make a Wardrobe Wants List
I keep a running list of wardrobe wants in my iPhone. The list is perpetually growing but it is satisfying to mark off items as I acquire them. This helps me to shop purposefully and to add items to help curate my look.
4. Organize Clothes So You’ll See Them
The saying goes, “out of sight, out of mind.” This is true when it comes to clothes and accessories as well. When you don’t see your clothes and accessories, you’re less likely to wear them. I add my blouses, dresses and pants to hangers but I put my shorts and knit shirts on a shelf in my closet. I don’t put the shorts and knits in a drawer since I know those are items I grab for less. I also put my belts on a hanger in my closet so I can grab them easier and remember what I have. I will admit though, my belts could use better organization.
5. Make your closet pleasant
Add something to your closet that makes it more aesthetically pleasing. This could be color-coordinated organization boxes, framed art, a mirror or a vignette area. When you add beautiful items to your closet, it makes it more exciting to be in there.
