How to Care for Thrifted Items New in Your Wardrobe

Is there anything better than thrifting for fashion in fall? Maybe your answer is yes, maybe your answer is no. Either way, I quite enjoy it! When shopping secondhand this season, now is the perfect time to stock up on silk, velvet and cozy fabrics. After you find your perfect pieces, follow the steps below to prolong the lifespan of your items.

Inspect the Clothes

With all of the excitement of finding new items that spark joy, it could be very easy to overlook minor imperfections in the garment. Once you’re home, thoroughly inspect your pieces to see if there are any loose threads, missing buttons, discoloration, etc.

Check the fabric on the care label

Once you know what fabric your garment is made of, you’ll be able to learn how to care for your item. If the item does not have a care label, a quick internet search should help you figure out how to care for the garment.

Clean your Items

After you’ve identified the fabric, you should wash your items before adding them to your closet. Whether it’s machine wash, hand wash only or dry clean, make sure you clean the item thoroughly before wearing.

Dry

Just like the cleaning process, each garment has its own instructions for drying. Some items can be placed in the dryer while others should line dry.
